Shark Teeth & Shell Hunting in the Beaufort Lowcountry

Search for fossilized shark teeth, shells, and hidden coastal treasures on a family-friendly Lowcountry boat adventure

This fun and educational 3 hour trip is designed around low tide to maximize your shark teeth and shell hunting experience so departure times will vary. You’ll learn how to search for fossils and comb the shore for shells and other treasures. As part of the adventure you will climb off the boat onto the shoreline in water that’s ankle to knee-deep. Expect to get wet, sandy, and maybe a little muddy so be sure to dress appropriately!

Fun Fact: Did you know sharks not only grow thousands of teeth in a lifetime, but they lose an impressive number of them, too? That’s good news for shark tooth hunters who scour the shorelines in search of new additions of these fossilized sea treasures. With miles of tidal coastline, the Lowcountry is a rich source of fossilized fang finds. Bull sharks, sand sharks, lemon sharks, reef sharks, great white and the prized megalodon are all a part of this favorite scavenger hunt. And many are hundreds of thousands of years old—one reason why collecting shark teeth is so enjoyable!
